I went to shoot Rice Planting Shinto Ritual "Otaue Shinji" of Kumata Shrine at April 13 2015, that is registered as nation's selected intangible properties of folk culture.
This year, it is many rainy days and a change of the temperature is intense. The cherry had flowered early and has been scattered early.
That was been managed by "Shichi-Myouke" the leader of Hirano who was posterity of "Sakanoue Tamuramaro", he was one of the most famous Shogun in Japan. But after many goods of ceremony was lost under the confusion during the beginning of the Meiji period, Sueyoshi Family that was leader of "Shichi-Myouke" was been operating the ceremony. Nowadays, that is been operating by the Preservation Society of "Otaue Shinji" Ceremony, and that ceremony was designated as National Important Intangible Folk-Cultural Properties in 2008.
I started shooting from the practice stage that took place on April 5 2015. The protagonist (Shite) plays has been three times until this year and that was at last.
I arrived at the shrine at 5:00 pm April 13. It needed a stepladder for shooting because the main shrine has been about 1 meter higher than the ground level. Then started ready for ceremony by shrine staffs.
After a while, they came together for change of clothes. When change of clothes of all was completed, they were doing the final practice.
They entered main shrine, and then the ceremony has started. It was prohibited using a flash, so I shot on ISO 6,400.
After festival, I was participated in the meeting.
I thank you for everyone of this festival.

I am interested in documenting and introducing the world to traditional Japanese culture. My main motif are the Japanese traditional festival and the environment. The characteristic of my works are simplification of the subject, exaggerated perspective, the color control with a feature, and that is to use as reference the characteristics of Ukiyo-e and I have named to "Digital Ukiyo-e(Registered trademark)". I began photographing at the age of 13 and belongs to The Photographic Society of Japan.
